14 DEC CHRISTMAS LUNCH??
Since the last AGM, Southampton Roundel has had a busy year. We have had and continue to have regular monthly meetings with a speaker booked for each. The variety of talks have ranged from Peter Hale talking of his wartime flying experiences , flying with the V Bomber force to a diver talking of finding a Spitfire on the Mediterranean seabed.
Our Roundel represented the Society at the Southwick D Day weekend in June 2017. It was very successful with several new members joining. Our wartime Pilots attended both days and were busy talking to people interested in their careers.
A large number of children were very interested in the stories told by Peter and Dennis. From this we arranged for two school visits by our pilots so that the pupils could have time asking questions in a formal way. Peter Hale attended Bedenham Primary School in Gosport and Dennis Keep went to Thornden Secondary School, Chandlers Ford. Both proved highly successful.
Last summer the Roundel visited Tangmere Air Museum followed by a cream tea. The members and their families had a very enjoyable day.
As a Roundel we continue to promote the Spitfire Society by attending events and encouraging Members to bring along friends, who may be future members after learning what we are about. We look forward another busy year.
